Rudyard Kipling was a British writer born in India in 1865. He became famous for poems and short stories such as The Jungle Book, and for portraying the British Empire through the lens of his era. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907. This poem is incredibly powerful. It speaks of keeping one’s cool when everything falls apart, and of maintaining integrity, humility, and resilience… It is almost a moral manual for Stoic character. And it is interesting because, despite its Victorian origins, it still feels surprisingly relevant today.
